The EU is a financial and political basket case and there are plenty of countries that survive very well outside the EU. Norway, Switzerland and so on. Your claim does not stand up to critical examination.
There is no requirement for the EU to extend beyond a trading block.
These countries are disparate entities and the only commonality they share is being a part of the European land mass.
Simplistic thinking has led to this mess and your arguments only serve to perpetuate the myth of solidarity.
There is no solidarity other than that forced by Brussels and the Lisbon treaty.
Each entity that makes up the EU has different language different culture different economic development and different systems to control their economies.
The EU has become a mess because of this and it is burdened by debt.
I can assure you if nobody would bail out Britain they want even less to do with the PIIGS
The EU in total is carrying debt and they claim they will bail each other out.
How would they do that? Like a group alcoholics claiming they will give each other alcohol when they have all run out of the stuff.
The last thing the UK needs to do is increase their involvement with these socialist idiots.
The Euro is a basket case backed by debt.
Weak countries drag down the strong. Greece drags down Germany and so on.
Britain should exit the EU ASAP and get its house in order.
if the EU was successful this mess would not exist. it didn't happen because of the GFC it happened because Europe is badly run.
It doesn't make a profit overall and that is just one of its problems.
It is a socialist nightmare and there is no requirement to be in it. They don't have money to help Britain.
As for a military alliance that is what NATO is for it doesn't need political union to make Europe fend off an attack.
I am talking about the real Europe not penny Annie countries on the outskirts of the old Russian Empire.
Now we are stuck with their dross because they like our welfare system. it isn't working and we need out.
