Andy Murray's coach Miles Maclagan has quit

By Bob McKenzie

ANDY Murray's coach Miles Maclagan has quit after a disagreement about the British No1 bringing in Spanish specialist Alex Corretja.

Murray has used Corretja since last year to improve his clay court game but has increased his role as he approaches the American hard court season and the US Open.

Maclagan, who took over from Brad Gilbert in 2007, has helped Murray to become world No4 but results this season have shown the need to widen the scope of his game.

Maclagan and Corretja were with Murray in Miami for the past fortnight as he prepared for his first tournament since losing to Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon semi-finals in straight sets.

Murray wanted Maclagan to continue but he was unhappy with his role and despite the player’s wishes, he has opted out.

“I’ve had a great relationship with Miles over the past two-and-a-half years and I want to thank him for his positive contribution to my career,” said Murray. “We have had a lot of success and fun working together.”

Maclagan said: “It has been a privilege to work with Andy and I’m happy to have played my part in his career.

“I also want to thank the team for all their hard work over the years and I will miss working with them and Andy on a day-to-day basis. Andy is a great player and I know he will continue to have the success his talent and hard work deserves.”
